This past Sunday (called Spectacular Starting Sunday in the Winshape nation), over 250 campers arrived on the campus of Berry College to begin their 2-week stay at Girl's Camp. I have the privilege of having 5 of the 7th and 8th grade Cheyenne tribe members living with me for 2 weeks (in not so "camp-like" cabins... we have air-conditioning and bathrooms. Praise the Lord!) So far, it's been a blessing and a challenge, an adventure and a place of comfort. I have noticed that I am TOTALLY myself around my campers, which could tell you something about my personality. :)
My prayer for these girls is that the Lord will speak truth into their lives in a new way over these two weeks. These girls are dealing with so many different things, and they are hearing so many different voices telling them how to live. I hope that something they hear over these 2 weeks will lead them to listening to the only voice that matters, that of Jesus Christ. Our 3AM statement (so named because we want campers to be able to recite it even if someone woke them up at 3 in the morning) for the past few days has been, "I am something because Christ became nothing." I hope that truth is speaking to the girls' hearts as much as it has been speaking to mine.
I'm learning that 2 weeks is an incredibly long, yet short, period of time. It's a time period that allows for getting to know someone pretty well, but it's so short in the actual span of life. I hope to make the most of every opportunity!
Miss you all!
